The Supergirls: Feminism, Fantasy, and the History of Comic Book Heroines Review

This is a book I read for a research project on the evolution of female characters in comic books. This text gave an excellent recollection of the history of female super heroes through the decades. It even helped illuminate why some female villains were viewed the way the were. For the most part the text is unbiased recollection of events and points in the characters histories. Madrid does show bias at a few points as it does cover topics that it is hard not to have an opinion on. I definitely recommend reading it if  you have any interest in comic book history or women's studies at all.

Gaming!

So in the last 4 years I have really gotten into video games. I play mostly on my PS4 console. I play a variety of games from single player games like Assassins Creed to Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) like Destiny 2.  One gaming technology that has been interesting to play with (pun intended)  which is interactive virtual reality. My experience has been with Samsung VR headset. You plug your cell phone into it and then put on the "VR" goggles over your eyes. You are then immersed in a setting that is not the outside world but a game you chose where you interact with objects that do not really exist. One of the demo's we played was a scary haunted psych ward with several ghosts jumping out at you and even one chasing you! You are totally immersed there is literally stuff going on all around, above and depending on the game, beneath you. If you are not careful and aware of your outside surroundings you can injure yourself or those around you. So you have to be careful when using this style of VR.

School!

So for my Library Sciences class I was asked to write a couple blog posts. This first one is comparing two social media sites. I'm going to look at Tumblr and Facebook. These are the 2 social media sites that I have the most experience with. These I both see as having benefits to the library professional. I am wanting to work in a public library upon graduation so I am looking at these in how they can work in that scenario. Tumblr is a great micro-blogging site that provides a great place for longer posts, such as media reviews. It also provides a great place start a conversation on the posted topic. Facebook is a great place to organize events and get to more people. It is a larger and has a wider audience.  For example below is a link to an event at IUPUI's university libarary event "Next Generation Researcher Resource Fair"
